Mongolian tried to cheat casino

A MONGOLIAN was fined $4,000 on Tuesday for attempting to deceive a Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino croupier by placing his bets after betting was closed.

From March 13 to 14, Khorloo Khaliun, 44, the director of Mongolia Ship Registry, thrice cheated at three-card poker.

He would view his hand after the croupier announced that no more bets were allowed and had dealt the cards.

He would then place an additional chip on his original bet on the sly - $25 two times and $100 on the last attempt.

He stood to gain at least $275 from this.

But the croupier spotted his third try and Khaliun retracted his additional chip.

Khaliun had been to the MBS casino about 30 times, and knew how to play the game.

A work permit holder and resident of Singapore since September 2009, he said in mitigation that he and several visitors from Mongolia drank three 750ml bottles of vodka and two 750ml bottles of whisky. He had also been drinking beer as he played three-card poker.

According to court documents, the Singapore-based Mongolia Ship Registry is a representative of the Mongolian government in registering ships under the Mongolian flag.
