Lambert headed to Mongolia with OCC

Olivia Lambert, 18, of West Portsmouth is one of 20 young adults in America chosen by the Samaritans Purse Youth (SPY) program to help deliver Operation Christmas Child shoe box gifts to Mongolia in July 20-28.

Lambert said she has been volunteering locally with Operation Christmas Child for the last five years.

“I think this will be an awesome eye-opening experience,” Lambert said. “While there we will get to help people out and tell them about the word of Christ.”

She said the trip will allow her to see a part of the world she might not otherwise get to see.

“I think that God’s hand has been on Olivia. She has a desire to serve him in every way she can,” said Virginia Cook, OCC regional coordinator.

Cook said Lambert is the first person from the area to participate in this program.

Cook said she has heard others describe the experience as life changing.

Lambert said she hopes to use the experience as a recruiting tool, to get more people involved with OCC locally.

Lambert is working two jobs to help pay for the trip. The cost of the trip is estimated at $2,500 to $3,500.

“The first day I found out I was chosen to go my mom was telling everyone about it and by the end of that day I had $700 in donations,” Lambert said.
