NEWS FROM WASHINGTON-BASED MONGOLIANS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Mongolians living in Washington D.C are to celebrate the Lunar New Year in several places.


On February 12, for example, the “Mongolian Friends” organization, set up by volunteers from the Peace Corps, will arrange a questionnaire contest, the same day in Arlington, Mongolian dairy products and pastry foods for the Lunar New Year will be on offer, as well as the Mongolian traditional clothes.

Mongolian girl Naranchimeg from Omnogobi aimag arrived on February 6 in Boston to have medical treatment.

She is known in by Mongolia by her bravery when, being two years old, she saved her 10-month sister from a fire.

The girl will undergo an operation on her legs on February 13. All expenses are sponsored by the SAS Kari organization that is implementing a project in Mongolian soums.

The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore will host a cultural day of Mongolia. It is co-organized by the Mongolian Cultural Center in the USA and the Peabody Conservatory at the university.

In frames of the event, a Mongolian singer E.Saran will give a lecture and a small concert, also an exhibition of Mongolian calligraphy and foods will be organized.

A traditional meeting on Mongolian studies will be held on March 16-17 Toronto, Canada.
The U.S Center of Mongolian Studies will run a demonstration meeting, give a reception and concert, and continue sub-meetings.

On May 4-5, the Embassy of Mongolia in Washington D.C and the Mongolian Cultural Center will co-organize the 6th conference on Mongolian studies under a theme “Chingis Khaan-850”.

Mongolians in the USA will organize a football championship May 25-26 in Las Vegas.

The competitions will attract Mongolians from Washington D.C, Denver, Seattle, San-Francisco, New Jersey and Chicago.
