MPs give opinions on Tavantolgoi shares issue
The Government has determined that 1,072 shares of the Tavantolgoi mining project will be worth MNT 1 million. Our correspondent asked several MPs for their opinions on the Government’s decision.
Batj.Batjargal: Parliament should not set the price
He said a parliamentary protocol does not agree with the meaning of a draft that he initiated. The draft said
the ten percent of Tavantolgoi shares that were to be sold to domestic organizations should go to citizens.
He also said Parliament should not set the price of shares, it should be determined according to business principles.
S.Erdene: Don’t take shares from domestic organizations He said that he has not opposed increasing the number of shares that go to citizens, but domestic organizations that develop the country’s economy should also own shares. He said that, if the Government decides to increase citizens’ shares, it could give them away from its own shares.
Terbishdagva: Parties can fulfill their promises He said the MPP and DP have established working groups to change Parliament’s 39th protocol, and the two parties have the possibility of fulfilling their election promises of cash allowances. The draft says domestic organizations can buy shares at the named price. He said Erdenes Tavantolgoi LLC officials stated that dividends might not be issued until 2017 due to infrastructure building at the project.
Ts.Bayarsaikhan: Government is cheating the people He said the 39th protocol of Parliament said all citizens would own shares in Tavantolgoi, and in the 2008 parliamentary election citizens were promised an allowance of MNT 1.5 million. But now, he said, the two items have been merged, and the Government will cheat the people.
S.Byambatsogt: This is a coalition government program He said the coalition government said MNT 1.5 million should be allocated to each citizen after the Tavantolgoi deposit mine shares become available. He said the working group has been guided by the coalition government program, and the draft has not instructed that shares be valued at MNT 1 million. It instructs that 20 percent of all shares go to citizens.
