Mongolian business trip planned
Retired travel agent Andy Jamieson of Moncton is convinced that investors can make money by investing in Mongolia, and is now putting together a fact-finding adventure tour to the Asian nation.
"I'm not an investment advisor but I'm making contact with some. I'm a travel agent that says this country has potential for investors. Mongolia is a great destination to explore the potential more on your money than you can in Canada right now," Jamieson said.
Mongolia is a land-locked country bordered by Russia to the north and the People's Republic of China to the south, east and west. It has a population of about three million, and more than one million live in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar. The country's main industries are agriculture and mining, but there is little arable land and about 30 per cent of the population is said to continue living the life of nomadic tribes. The country's airport was named after its legendary emperor, Genghis Khan, in 2005 to mark the 800th anniversary of the formation of the Mongol state.
Jamieson says Mongolia is going through an economic transformation and is in need of investors to help spur new business opportunities in mining. So he is proposing a fact-finding tour of potential investors. The trip is scheduled to leave Sept. 7 and fly to Dubai, and then to Ulaanbaatar. He's in the process of making contact with officials in Mongolia to meet the delegation and discuss various tourism and investment opportunities.
A native of England, Jamieson came to Canada in 1957. He worked as a travel agent and real estate agent in Toronto, Halifax and Charlottetown before coming to Moncton. He recently retired but found himself too bored to sit around and do nothing, and decided to rekindle his travel agent skills for another adventure.
He welcomes inquires from potential investors and those interested in the trip at 962-7633.
