Mongolia to Process Coal
For years Mongolians could only mine coal and export it directly to overseas without processing; this lead to Mongolian coal being undervalued. So, on 11th of this month a new door opened up for the Mongolian mining industry. The Energy Resource Company that started mining coal in 2009 has within just two years established Mongolia’s first factory that is able to fully process coal.
This factory, equipped with western technology, is located in Umnugobi providence. The experienced Australian mining company supervised the process of building the factory.
This means a lot to Mongolians as now we can compete with foreign companies and our coal can be sold at a higher price. This factory will, not only create many job vacancies, but will also bring other developments.
Experts predict that following this factory many other factories will be established; such as water and electricity. Without further ado, we present you some opinions from visitors about this event.
Sh. Gungaadorj; ex- Prime Minister of Mongolia:
“I am not a mining expert, my specialty if farming. However, even I can understand that this project started in the Gobi providence will bring much development to our country as whole.
This is, not only pride of Umnugobi providence’s residents, nor of those working in the mining industry, it is our nation’s pride. I believe this shows that when Mongolian youngsters combine their knowledge to work together nothing is impossible. “

“I think there is no need to explain the financial benefits this project will bring; as everyone understands. The fact that we Mongolians were able to build this factory in this short period of time by ourselves shows that Mongolians can trust in domestic companies.
All of those who were present at the opening of the factory witnessed an historic event in the development of Mongolia; and as a symbol of this we all planted trees. This factory will further expand to process more coal. This event helps us to be on the same page as all other mining companies all over the world. “
