Lithuanian Ambassador presented credentials to the President of Mongolia

On 6 June in Ulan Bator, Lithuanian Ambassador to China Lina Antanavičienė presented credentials to the President of Mongolia Tsakhiagin Elbegdorzh. At the meeting following the solemn ceremony, L.Antanavičienė and T.Elbegdorzh discussed the relations between Lithuania and Mongolia that had been intensifying during the recent years, and the cooperation of the two countries within international organizations. During the conversation, details of T.Elbegdorzh’s visit to Lithuania at the end of this month were discussed, as well as the need to promote the commercial and economic cooperation between Lithuania and Mongolia.

Ulan Bator, T.Elbegdorzh and L.AntanavičienėThe President of Mongolia noted that currently his country was walking along the path of reform, which Lithuania had walked before. According to him, Lithuania works a lot with the Community of Democracies and the European Union, therefore, Mongolia is learning from such experience.

In Ulan Bator, the Ambassador also met with Minister of Roads, Transportation, Construction and Urban Development of Mongolia Kaltma Batuldzha and Sambu Demberel, the Chairman and CEO of the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

During the meetings, L.Antanavičienė invited Mongolia to get more actively engaged in transport initiatives of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). The first-ever ASEM Transport Ministers’ Meeting was held in 2009 at Lithuania’s initiative. The Vilnius Declaration on closer Asia-Europe transport cooperation was signed at the meeting. The second ASEM Transport Ministers’ Meeting will be held in China’s city of Chengdu this year. Lithuania is closely cooperating with China in preparing for this meeting.

Lithuania is interested in the aviation sector of Mongolia: possibilities to train Lithuanian pilots at the country’s training centres, to send young people to study aviation at Lithuanian higher education institutions. Mongolia would also wish to discuss the possibility of building Mongolia’s transhipment and European distribution warehouses in Klaipėda.

The Ambassador and S.Demberel discussed the possibility to organize an exchange of business missions to promote direct business contacts. The Mongolians are especially interested in Lithuania’s experience in the field of standardization and the possibility to cooperate in the sectors of food industry and construction. S.Demberel suggested organizing the Lithuanian Days at the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The size of Mongolia’s market is similar to the size of Lithuania’s market. The country has a population of 3 million, but the industry is not highly developed. The country imports a wide range of consumer products, so it is a potential export market for Lithuanian food, construction and furniture manufacturers.
