2011 Mongolia International Marathon
The 2011 Mongolia International Marathon will take place on 24th July in Sunjinboldog complex, located near Ulaanbaatar. The organisers of the competition said during the press conference held in the embassy building of Mongolia in Tokyo, Japan on 15th June, that the nine Japanese athletes of Fukushima, Iwate and Miyagi provinces (which was struck by the powerful earthquake) will take part by invitation in this Marathon.
Firstly, the competition was initiated by someone from Japan and has been organised annually since 1997. This year’s 15th competition is being organised by the Mongolian Track and Field Athletic Committee and the Governor’s Office of Ulaanbaatar under the initiative of Mongolian National Tourism Center.
The Japanese outstanding long distant runner Chiba Masako, who won the bronze medal in the 1997 World Championship 1997 will participate in the marathon and the Japanese journalist Ei Rokusuke will report the event.
Participants are already registered for the competition that will take place on Mongolia’s wide ope steppes.
The winning male and female athlete will be awarded with a racing horse and the Cup will be handed over by Ambassador of Japan to Mongolia.
