U.S. ambassador gives lecture
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the USA to Mongolia Mr. Jonathan Addleton has given a lecture to students of the International Relations School at Mongolia's State University (MSU), the U.S Embassy in Mongolia said Monday.
Mr. Addleton addressed a crowd of 200 students at the School covering a wide range of topics related to cooperation between the United States and Mongolia. He has kicked off his presentation by highlighting three key anniversaries that will occur over his three year term as Ambassador. Mr. Addleton has said that the 20th anniversary of the democratic transition in Mongolia in 2010; the 100th anniversary of the re-assertion of Mongolian independence in 2011; and the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the U.S and Mongolia in 2012.
Over the course of his remarks, the ambassador described the five broad areas of the bilateral relationship--supporting democracy, promoting economic development, expanding bilateral trade and investment, promoting regional and international security, and enhancing person-to-person exchanges.
At the end of the formal presentation, the students asked many thoughtful and pertinent questions.
Several of the students had participated in the Summer Work and Travel Program in the United States, so the Ambassador asked them about their experience. They noted that it was very hard work, but they learned many new things during their experience, and enjoyed meeting people from all over the world.
