MPP MPs want more time to discuss law draft on pasture land

The MPP group in Parliament discussed on December 27 the law draft on pasture land submitted by some MPs and decided there was need for more discussion. Giving this information to media, the head of the group, D.Lundeejantsan, said that members felt parts of the draft related to the existing law on the land and to provisions in the Constitution and so called for more careful review.

The issue of pasture land is important because 1.1 million sq. km or 70% of the total territory of Mongolia is used for animal grazing. However, the pasture area in every aimag has its own special features and it may be better not to have the same law applicable everywhere. Also the free movement of herders from one soum to another in times of adverse weather conditions may also have to be regulated. Members wanted to ascertain herders’ views on several details of the draft before they resumed deliberations on it.
