Speaker Meets Japanese Parliamentary Delegation

Ulaanbaatar, August 21 (MONTSAME) The Chairman of the State Great Khural (parliament) Z.Enkhbold Wednesday received a visiting delegation headed by Mr Moto Hayashi, a head of the Japan-Mongolia friendship group at the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP).

The Speaker expressed a satisfaction with the visit of the Japanese parliamentary delegation, and noted that a development of the friendly relations and cooperation with Japan is one of the priorities of Mongolia’s foreign policy. He also underlined that Mongolia attaches a great importance to its strategic partnership with Japan.
“I am glad that our countries reached a principal agreement to establish an Economic Partnership Agreement during a visit of the Mongolian President to Japan this July, and this agreement, as I hope, will bring our strategic partnership to a newer level," Mr Enkhbold stressed.
In response, Mr Moto said he is happy with the "intensive development of the bilateral relations and cooperation, especially of the strategic ties and economic partnership". Japan is ready to make investments to the private sector of Mongolia, he said.
Mr Moto also said their parliamentary delegation is visiting Mongolia in frames of the 40th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations, adding that they will attend an opening of a joint exhibition named “Sky and Sun Partnership”.
Present at the meeting were also delegates of the Japan-Mongolia inter-parliamentary group at Japanese parliament; Mr Takenori Shimizu, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia; Mr S.Khurelbaatar, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Japan; Mr D.Erdenebat MP, a head of the Mongolia-Japan inter-parliamentary group at Mongolian parliament and chairman of the Democratic Party’s faction; Ms S.Odontuya MP, a deputy head of the DP faction; parliamentarians O.Baasankhuu and Su.Batbold; Mr B.Boldbaatar, the secretary-general of the Parliamentary Offices.

Prime Minister meets with Chinese Minister of Culture
August 21 (news.mn) Prime Minister of Mongolia N.Altankhuyag received Chinese Culture Minister Cai Wu on Wednesday, August 20th.
Chinese Culture Minister Cai Wu said he was pleased to see the Premier again and said that bilateral relations between Mongolia and China have broadened, not only in the fields of politics, economy, but also in humanities. Wu added that China will pay close attention to intensifying bilateral relations, and cooperate in the fields of culture with a focus on protecting cultural heritage.
The opening ceremony for Chinese cultural days in Ulaanbaatar falls on the same day as the official visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Mongolia.
Both parties agreed that this visit will be worthwhile in multiple fields of cooperation between the two countries.
During the visit, Chinese Cultural Minister Cai Wu and Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism Ts.Oyungerel will sign a cultural exchange program agreement for 2014-2017 between Mongolia and China.

Ulaanbaatar, August 21 (MONTSAME) At the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs L.Bold presented a summary of an official visit his Canadian counterpart paid to Mongolia this July 23-25.
Mr John Baird was here at the invitation of Mr Bold. The two FMs held tet-a-tet meeting and then official talks to exchange views on the Mongolia-Canada relations and cooperation in regional and international arenas. They also reached concrete agreements on increasing a volume of the bilateral relations and on activating the ties and cooperation in the mining, defense, legal reforms, agriculture, health, education and construction spheres. Mr Baird was also received by the President Ts.Elbegdorj and the Speaker of parliament Z.Enkhbold.

China’s President Xi Jinping Arrives in Mongolia
August 21 (infomongolia.com) At the invitation of the President of Mongolia Tsakhia ELBEGDORJ, the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping and his spouse Peng Liyuan and other accompanying delegates have landed with Beijing-Ulaanbaatar charter flight at the Chinggis Khaan International Airport at 11:00 am today on August 21, 2014.
The honored delegates who are paying a two-day state visit to Mongolia were welcomed at the Airport by Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag and other officials with a guard of honor.
According to program, President Xi Jinping and his spouse Peng Liyuan will be welcomed at Chinggis Square at 04:00 pm, afterwards President Ts.Elbegdorj and President Xi Jinping will be holding an official talk in the Government House at 04:45 pm and following the official meeting, representatives of the two countries will sign intergovernmental documents.
At 06:00 pm the two Presidents will make press statements.
The President of the PR of China is accompanied with over 80 journalists and cameramen, moreover Mr. Xi Jinping is accompanied with Wang Huning, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Director of the Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee; Li Zhanshu, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee; and State Councilor Yang Jiechi and other officials.

Cabinet Meeting in Brief

Ulaanbaatar, August 21 (MONTSAME) At the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the Deputy Prime Minister D.Terbishdagva presented results of the working visit paid here by Mr S.Ye.Donskoi, Russia’s Minister of Mineral Resources and Environment and head of the Russian side of the Mongolia-Russia intergovernmental commission of trade, economy, sciences and technical cooperation.
Being the head of the Mongolian side of the commission, Mr Terbishdagva was obliged to take some measures in line of the visit.
- A head of the Cabinet Secretariat for Government Ch.Saikhanbileg briefed about the government's activities in this July. According to him, the cabinet met five times to discuss 101 issues, to get familiarized with 26 issues, and to issue 28 resolutions, 72 notes and one order of the Prime Minister. 

Korean Foreign Affairs Minister to visit Mongolia
August 21 (news.mn) South Korea's Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Korea, Yun Byung-Se will make an official visit to Mongolia upon the invitation of Foreign Affairs Minister of Mongolia L.Bold on August 25-27th.
South Korea's Foreign Affairs Minister will be received by President Ts.Elbegdorj and Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag, and will have official talks with Foreign Affairs Minister L.Bold.
During the meetings and talks, issues of deepening  the relations of the comprehensive partnership between Mongolia and South Korea, expanding  bilateral trade, economy and investment, easing travel conditions between visitors,  affirming Mongolia's stance on issues of Northeast Asia and North Korea, cooperating on Mongolia's call for the Ulaanbaatar Dialogue on Northeast Asian Security, and gaining South Korea's support as Mongolia aims to join APEC and East Asia Summit will be raised and opinions will be exchanged.

Chinese President's visit to Mongolia begins
August 21 (news.mn) Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan landed at Chinggis Khaan International Airport for a state visit to Mongolia at the invitation of President Ts.Elbegdorj today, August 21st.
On the first day of his two-day visit to Mongolia, Chinese President Xi Jinping will have official talks with his counterpart, President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj.
On the second day, Xi Jinping will speak for a special session meeting of the State Great Khural and will meet Speaker of Parliament Z.Enkhbold and Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag.
This year, Mongolia and China will celebrate the 65th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of revised friendly relations and a cooperation agreement between the two countries.

Mongolia-Japan business meeting scheduled
August 21 (news.mn) A Mongolia-Japan business meeting will take place at Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21st.
Businessmen accompanied by Japanese parliamentary delegates visiting Mongolia will conduct meetings with Mongolian entities and companies in the fields of airport management, industry engineering, infrastructure engineering, construction, logistics, security operation safety service, digging and remediation service, used and new automobile importers, and tourism.

World Bank Announces New Country Representative for Mongolia
August 21 (infomongolia.com) The World Bank has appointed James Anderson as its new Country Representative for Mongolia. Mr. Anderson has formally taken the position on August 18, 2014 and will begin work in Ulaanbaatar next week.
Mr. James Anderson is a U.S. national and a PhD in Economics. He brings with him broad experience, having worked with the World Bank since 1997. Before joining the World Bank Mongolia, he served as the Senior Government Specialist in Hanoi, Vietnam. From 1998 to 2008, he was a public sector specialist in the European and Central Asia Region of the World Bank. During the 1990s spent some years working in Mongolia as part of a USAID project and consulting for the World Bank, organizing training on institutional reform and conducting research on the effects of privatization and on Mongolia’s burgeoning informal sector.
Mr. Anderson will soon begin making courtesy calls with government officials, including the Minister for Economic Development and Minister for Finance.
“Mr. James Anderson will lead the World Bank’s engagement in Mongolia, working in partnership with the government and other stakeholders to support Mongolia’s development, leveraging its resources to help reduce poverty and ensure that Mongolia’s prosperity is widely shared among the population,” said the Country Director for Mongolia, China and Korea Mr. Klaus Rohland.
Under Mr. Anderson’s leadership, the World Bank Mongolia will continue to support the Mongolian government’s efforts on a broad range of development issues and closely work with development partners, the private sector, and civil society.
