Inner Mongolia Holds Beauty Contest for Sheep
Every year, Inner Mongolia holds a unique beauty contest–to find the most beautiful sheep.
Over 100 breeding stock sheep from all over Inner Mongolia strutted their stuff and showed off their wonderful bodies.
[Sain Baierlm, Herdsman]:
"When we are selecting the sheep, we choose the most beautiful, or the strongest one."
The herdsmen of Inner Mongolia exchange their experiences raising sheep, and they also win awards.
[Nam Gillar, Beauty Contest Judge]:
"The criteria include weight, height and bodily form. We take all aspects into consideration to give the result."
After strict screening from the judges, a black-eyed sheep from East Ujimqin Banner was declared the winner.
The owner of the sheep, Sain Baierl, has been raising sheep for over 20 years. He said the improved new breeding stock sheep brought him continuous championships in the contest, as well as high profits.
Sain said the winning sheep could bring him up to 400,000 yuan a year or $62,000 dollars.
