Bombardier : Grows its Rail Control Expertise in the CIS and Region
Bombardier Transportation is the leading rail signalling supplier across the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Baltic States and Mongolia
Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation is growing its presence as the leading rail control solution supplier for the so-called 1520 market, the second most widely used railway gauge worldwide. With 18 years of experience in delivering technology for this sector, Bombardier's solutions are in operation or delivery across the CIS, Baltic States and Mongolia.
A well-established signalling partner in Russia, the Bombardier Transportation (Signal) Ltd engineering joint venture with RZD has been the market leader for computer-based interlocking (CBI) systems since 1996. The BOMBARDIER EBI Lock CBI system is in operation at over 220 stations in Russia, the CIS and Baltic countries, controlling more than 5,300 points and over 1,100 km of line. Bombardier is also partner in a manufacturing joint venture in Moscow and owns a stake in the RZD subsidiary, Elteza.
The BOMBARDIERINTERFLO 200 solution was chosen as the first modern signalling system to be delivered in the CIS (outside of Russia). Operation started in 2012 in Uzbekistan on the Tashguzar to Kumkurgan line. In the same year, the solution was commissioned in the Ukraine between Krasnograd and Lozovaya and work started for Turkmenistan's Serhetyaka to Buzkhun and Chilmamet to Buzkhun lines. Other projects underway include the major upgrade in Azerbaijan for a section of the Kars to Baku transport corridor and two projects in Latvia (Bolderaja to Zasulauks and Riga Harbour). In 2013, Bombardier entered the rail signalling market in Mongolia commissioning the first EBI Lock CBI, in the Gobi Desert.
Most recently, the first radio-based train control (RBTC) mainline system in the CIS started operation on the Uzen to Bolshak line in Kazakhstan in April 2014. Work is now ongoing to deliver the INTERFLO 550 solution for four other projects: the Zhetygen to Korgas line, planned to start commercial operation this year, plus the Arkalik to Shubarkol, Zhezkazgan to Saksaulskaya and Beineu-Shalkar lines. Committed to expanding its local presence, Bombardier has over 200 employees based in the region and has been expanding a new engineering centre in the Ukraine since 2013.
Peter Cedervall, President, Rail Control Solutions Division, Bombardier Transportation, said: "Our growing presence in a number of countries in this region reflects our long-term commitment to our customers and partners and our ability to provide the best for purpose solution for each market. Our locally based teams have all the capabilities needed to deliver projects and products throughout the region and we aim to grow our presence even further." About Bombardier Transportation
