‘New Works’ exhibition
Art Merit Worker, Honorary Artist of the Union of Mongolian Artists, and painter Ya.Oyunchimeg will share her new work at Tsagaandarium Art Gallery from November 2 to 16. An opening ceremony for the exhibition will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Ya.Oyunchimeg is a one of Mongolia’s finest painters and a defining figure in the contemporary art scene of Mongolia. Through her delicate and intimate portraits the viewer finds themselves getting a glimpse of not just the beautiful women of Mongolia, but also a reflection of one of Mongolia’s finest artists. Ya.Oyunchimeg’s works have been exhibited in galleries worldwide, bringing her many awards. She is far from being lost amidst her talented family, and as receives more and more attention, she is being recognized as a defining figure in contemporary Mongolian art.
In the hands of less skilled artists, the subject matter of her paintings (female portraiture, landscapes, and still life) could become tired and clichéd, but Ya.Oyunchimeg is able to produce moving and powerful works with these seemingly simple subjects. In a recent series entitled “Colors of Autumn”, still life compositions defy the name as soft pinks, magentas, lilacs, and lemony yellows explode across the canvas in quick thick strokes. Her use of the same energetic pastels and expressive brushwork creates similar innovation in her landscapes. The artist’s true strength, however, lies in her realistic portraiture. Ya.Oyunchimeg modestly says that they are merely expressing a love of feminine beauty, yet it is instantly clear that they are so much more. The subjects are all women that Ya.Oyunchimeg knows personally and they look out from the canvas with shining eyes and silent smiles.
