Critically Endangered Przewalski's Foal Born at Animal Park in England
England's Port Lympne Wild Animal Park has announced the birth of a Przewalski's foal. The species is incredibly rare, and is just now making a comeback after having been declared extinct in Mongolia back in the 1970s.
Keepers at the Animal Park say the foal was born on October 26, and is just now learning to walk properly. Park employee Bob Savill says that, “He is doing remarkably well considering the weather.”
Seeing how this species is well equipped to deal with subfreezing temperatures, it should not come as a surprise that the foal is not in the least bothered by the drizzles and fog that England's climate keeps throwing at it.
Although Port Lympne Wild Animal Park has served as a home for this critically endangered species for many years now, this foal is the first of its kind to have been born at this sanctuary in nearly a decade, Zoo Borns reports.
Keepers hope that, in the not so distant future, many other Przewalski's foals will be born at this facility.
“It is great to have a new Przewalski’s foal as we have previously repatriated Przewalski’s Horses via China and Mongolia, which we’re hoping to start up again soon,” says Bob Savill.
