PRESIDENT MEETS SPEAKER OF HOUSE OF NATIONALITIES OF MYANMAR

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj Tuesday held a meeting with the Speaker of the Upper house of Parliament of Myanmar, Mr Khin Aung Myint.

Before this meeting, Mr Elbegdorj had visited the Uppatasanti Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw city and signed its Honorary Guests book.

Beginning the meeting, the Speaker Khin Aung Myint expressed a pleasure for the visit of the President of Mongolia to his country, "and I am confident that this visit will be a valuable contribution to the relations and cooperation between our two countries, bringing them into a new level".

In response, the leader of Mongolia expressed a gratitude to Mr Myint for his cordial welcoming. "Mongolia has overcome many challenges in its ways to the democracy. We are ready to share this experiences if You choose the same way of development. Our support is not about teaching others, but sharing our experiences," Mr Elbegdorj said.

To this, the Speaker of the House of Nationalities said that they want to develop Myanmar in the way the President said, "learning Mongolia’s experiences, especially ways of reforming justice system and public service".

He also proposed that the two countries make direct flights between them and consultative meetings between the two Foreign Ministries are run on regular basis.

In his turn, Mr Elbegdorj said that Mongolia has set up an International Cooperation Fund in order to share with others its experiences in transition to the democracy, and that within the actions of the fund, a mechanism has been created to support democratic transitions in North Korea, Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan.

After this, the Mongolian President set forward a new appeal of M2 or Mongolia-Myanmar initiative that represents intensifying mining cooperation between the two countries and their united efforts in the global market.

The House of Nationalities (Amyotha Hluttaw) is the upper house of the bicameral legislature of Myanmar. It consists of 224 members of which 168 are directly elected and 56 appointed by the Myanmar Armed Forces. The last elections to the Amyotha Hluttaw were held in November 2010. At its first meeting on 31 January 2011, Khin Aung Myint was elected Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw and Chairman of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw as a whole.
