Yvcc Lecture Series On Tap

YAKIMA - Yakima Valley Community College’s 2013-14 faculty lecture series kicks off on on Wednesday, Nov. 13, with Dr. Kelley Denome talking about veterinary service development in Mongolia.

#Her lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in the Parker Room at the Yakima campus.

#Approximately one-third of Mongolian people are nomadic herders, dependent on livestock for their livelihood.

#During the severe winter of 2009-2010, 22 percent of the livestock in Mongolia died. Prior to winter there was a significantly higher survival rate for animals that received adequate health care under the VETNet Model Herder Program.

#Making veterinary service development is crucial for the region’s economic improvement. In 2011, Denome and her husband, Dr. Andy Denome, traveled to Mongolia through Christian Veterinary Mission to work with VETNet and provide training to veterinarians, veterinary technicians and nomadic herders.

#The public is invited to learn about the land, people, culture and animals of Mongolia - the land of Chinggis Khaan.

#The event is sponsored by YVCC’s Arts and Sciences Division and Phi Theta Kappa Student Club.
