HEALTH MINISTER AT SESSION OF WHO REGIONAL COMMITTEE

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A delegation headed by N.Udval, the Minister of Health, is taking part in the sixty-fourth session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for the Western Pacific.

The measure kicked off Monday in Manila, the Philippines. This year’s session has brought together delegations from 37 countries.

The Mongolian Minister is being accompanied by S.Togsdelger, a head of the Department Monitoring, Analysis and Domestic Audit, and B.Yanjmaa, a head of the External Relations and Cooperation Department.

The WHO Director-General Ms Margaret Chan made the opening remarks at the session, underlining an importance of expanding the adequacy of medical aid and services and involving the public in it. She also asked countries to pay special attention to prevention of newly detected/spreading infectious diseases.

Following the remarks, the participants elected the session’s chairperson and officials to perform other administrative duties during the session. As a result, the Health Minister of Samoa has been elected the session’s chair, whereas the Mongolian Health Minister Ms Udval has been selected as the deputy chair. Furthermore, the Mongolians have been elected the proxy committee's members at the session.

The session will continue until October 25.
