A York couple take on challenge of a lifetime for Honeymoon
Following their wedding on Saturday 14th July, newlyweds Helen Woolnough and Neil Melville will set off on a 14,000km honeymoon trip to Mongolia.
The couple who met whilst studying in York will take part in the Mongol Rally, a charity fundraising event which requires participants to drive from London to Ulaanbataar in Mongolia, using a car with an engine of less than 1.2 litres, in less than six weeks and raising at least £2000 for charity.
The adventure will take team ˜The Uncertainty Principle' through cities and deserts, across continents and mountain ranges for charitable causes, the Lotus Children's Centre in Mongolia and UNICEF - in a vehicle better suited for your Grandma to use to pop to the shops.
The vehicle chosen is a 2003 1108cc Fiat Panda named "Charles Ernest Heisenberg the First".
Cheeky Charlie, as he is known to his friends, will take the team through some of the most challenging terrain in the world, including a ferry crossing of the Caspian Sea and tackling the Pamir Highway, the second highest international road in the world at 4,655m.
York businesses are clambering to show their support by providing sponsorship to contribute toward the cost of the car, visas, carnets, fuel and return flights.
