VICE MINISTER T.PUREVDORJ ATTENDS INT'L MEETING

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ A delegation led by T.Purevdorj, the Vice Minister of Road, Transportation, Construction and Urban Development, has spoken about a present situation in road development in Mongolia and further directions at an international high-level meeting of transport ministers.

The meeting ran March 12-16 with participation of some 30 countries' representatives in Bangkok, Thailand. It was organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

The gathered have concluded a realization of the first phase of the regional program on transportation development, implemented within the 2006 Busan Declaration, and approved the 2nd phase of the program for 2012-2016.

After a message from the UN Secretary-General with a theme “Importance of establishing sustainable, fruitful and safe transport network in Asia-Pacific region”, the participants have underlined an importance of reducing transport expenses and connecting the ESCAP members with autoroads and railways in implementing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). They have urged governments of the ESCAP members to complete the constructions of road network of Asia and Trans-Asia railways and to facilitate the transit transportation.

Road traffic security was one of the vital topics at the meeting. The participants noted that 1.3 million people die every year in the world due to traffic accidents, and emphasized an importance of developing a collaboration in reducing the accidents.
