SPEAKER'S CONCERN OVER DRAFT LAW
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ There must not be doubts whether to amend the law on elections or not, this issue was agreed in principle on three years ago between the parties, warned the Speaker on Wednesday.
He said it at a meeting with S.Batbold PM and leader of Mongolian People's party (MPP), N.Altankhuyag, a first deputy PM and leader of Democratic party (DP), O.Enkhtuvshin, a head of MPP faction in parliament, Ch. Saikhanbileg, a head of DP faction, J.Sukhbaatar, a head of parliament's Standing committee on state structure.
The Speaker noted that a discission on draft of the parliamentary election law is too slow, and urged all of them to adopt it within this November. "We have neither time nor possibility to postpone the draft," he said.
The two political forces agreed to amend the elections law three years ago, so the amendment making is inevitable, he said.
Then he suggested to complete negotiations between MPP and DP and their factions on this matter within this week, for the bill would be discussed by parliament next week, and to have parliament voted on the draft in case the factions are not able to reach a consensus. Ending the meeting, the Speaker D.Demberel warned the gathered that disagreements between the political parties and their groups will not send a good message to people and recommended that the parties and the groups work closely. "The people have been expecting all of you to make fair and proper law on parliamentary elections, and again, the amendments are inevitable," he said.
