Mongolian scholar to take part in Antarctic expedition

L.Dugerjav, a science professor and head of the Antarctic Association of Mongolia, talked about his upcoming participation in an Antarctic expedition at a press conference at the Mongol News Agency on Tuesday.


The expedition will involve an international team of researchers from Bulgaria, Mongolia, Spain, Portugal, and Japan. Several holes will be drilled into the Antarctic icecap to research glacial temperature change.

L.Dugerjav said that altogether three teams plan to conduct research in the Antarctic over the next year, and his expedition will work there from December 1, 2011 to February 1, 2012. His goals are to study the possibility of building an Antarctic base station for Mongolian researchers and to continue his research.
