French company to export uranium from Mongolia

ULAN BATOR, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- French uranium giant "Areva" Group has completed field exploration and is extracting uranium in the Eastern Gobi province of Mongolia, local media reported Wednesday.

The company started producing uranium last December, which marked the country's first uranium extraction in the past two decades, the report said.

Currently, the company is continuing experimental production, extracting uranium from underground with a method called "heap leaching."

Encouraged by the results, Areva plans to build a small uranium exploitation plant in the country within two to three years.

The company also plans to build uranium processing plants to produce "yellow cake" or end uranium product by 2017, which will be exported to uranium enrichment plants in France and Kazakhstan.
