Five troupes fight for ticket to New Year show
Well Chinese New Year is still two months away, but anticipation of the Spring Festival Gala has already started. On Saturday night, five troupes from Guizhou, Shaanxi, Henan, and Jiangxi Provinces, as well as the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region took to the stage. Their mission? To show the judges they’ve got what it takes to perform at this year’s gala.
Dressed in beautiful traditional costumes, artists from Guizhou Province perform a passionate drum dance, a national intangible cultural heritage.
Artists from Shaanxi Province bring a festive atmosphere to the stage with a show featuring Erhu, drumming and a stilt dance.
Wang Hong, Choreographer, said, "We combine a lot of elements in this show, which I think makes it more lively and festive."
Students from the Shaolin Tagou Martial Arts School have performed at the Spring Festival Gala for more than a decade. This time, they remain confident that their skilful Kungfu antics will help them strut once again at this year’s gala.
Liu Yuefeng, Director, said, "We have performed 11 times at the Spring Festival Gala. But they were all different. This time we have also added something new to our show. I believe the audience will like it."
Up next, a junior choir from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region transports the audience to the grasslands with their beautiful singing. That’s followed by dancers from Jiangxi Province, whose elegant dance moves are imbued with the culture of blue and white porcelain.
