CNR’s Heavy-Haul Locomotive Helps Transport Coal from Inner Mongolia
On November 27, a heavy-haul AC drive electric locomotive developed by China CNR Corporation made its first run. With a maximum power of 9600KW, it is the most advanced and powerful AC drive electric locomotive in the world.
In recent years Inner Mongolia has become a very important origin of coal energy. Due to the terrains there, most coal is transported by AC drive electric or diesel locomotives, which cannot satisfy the growing demand.
CNR’s heavy-haul locomotive will help accelerate the development of coal transportation in Inner Mongolia. In the past, two locomotives were able to drag over 4,000 tons of goods, but the new model can drag 10,000 tons alone, a twofold increase of efficiency. As of November 24, CNR has provided 15 heavy-haul locomotives to Hohhot’s railway administration.
