Kalmyk Culture Celebrated In Howell
Our House Restaurant has a long history in Howell but it likely held one if its most unique events on Saturday with another longterm staple of the Howell community.
The banquet hall was filled with music and dancing during a special Kalmyk Day celebration.
Kicking off a week where a delegation from Mongolia is in town to sign a sister city agreement with Howell there was lots of fun to be had and good food to eat during the evening.
The Kalmyks have become an integral part of Howell since immigrating from Mongolia, particularly in the Freewood Acres section of town where one of their Buddhist temples was built many years ago.
Since that time, they have welcomed his holiness the Dalai Lama to town and helped sponsor other trips to the area.
It was also announced on Saturday that the local area has been selected to host the 2014 US Mongolian Soccer Tournament though no details on time or location have been set.
