Cheap homes for young couples
On December 12 the Prime Minister of Mongolia, N.Altankhuyag, announced a policy to provide cheap apartments for young couples. His announcement was made during his visit to “Zaluus Apartment Town” at Yarmag. N.Altankhuyag noted that the Innovation Government is fighting the rise in apartment prices. He pledged to focus on granting land at cheap prices for new apartment buildings and supporting construction companies to develop infrastructure.
A similar complex, “Viva City Apartment Town” is currently under construction. This complex is also designed for young couples and is located near the Tuul River in the 4th Khoroo of Khan-Uul District.
The focus of these apartment complexes is to provide cheap apartments for those who are currently residing in the “ger districts” or who are currently renting apartments and cannot afford to buy expensive apartments downtown.

The “Zaluus Apartment Town” complex has 32 buildings with 1600 apartments. Each building consists of 56 apartments and floor space options vary between 20 and 50 square metre. Some of the buildings are already being habited. The design of the complex was inspired by the traditional Mongolian dwelling, the ger, which typically has a space of between 20 and 30 square metre and houses four to six persons. Public services, such as supermarkets, will operate on the ground floors of each building in the apartment complex and the profits from these supermarkets will be used to improve infrastructure and to maintain the buildings in the complex.
