News.mn names city major as the person of the year
At the end of the year professional press bodies traditionally award people and particular event of the year with titles. News.mn would like to name E.Bat-Uul, the Governor of Capital city and Major of Ulaanbaatar, as the person of the year for 2012.
E.Bat-Uul was awarded with the title of Hero of Mongolia on December 10th, 2009 during the 20th Anniversary of Democratic movement in Mongolia for his role in the 1990 democratic revolution. During the campaign for the June parliamentary election, his announcement to refuse to be elected in parliament made a sensation.
But his retirement from politics had a reason. He decided to focus on social development and Ulaanbaatar city reform rather than under-talking politics.
Instead he led his Democratic Party team under the title of “We are the majority” slogan in the Local Administrative Election to win in Ulaanbaatar City Administration.
This is the first time that the Democratic Party became the majority in the Ulaanbaatar City Administration since Mongolian society transferred to a democracy.
Now the Governor of the Capital City and Major of Ulaanbaatar has started numerous measures to reduce heavy traffic jams, reorganize unlicensed illegal buildings and improve the quality standard and labor safety of construction work. The re-organization of ger districts into housing areas, building a metro, improving the infrastructure of bridges and tunnel crossings are included in the Major`s great ambitions.
News.mn has previously named Ardiin Erkh, the 69th Grand Champion of Professional Sumo Wrestling, Asoshyoryu Dagvadorj, President Tsakhia Elbegdorj, Grand Champion of Professional Sumo, Khakukho M.Davaajargal, former the Deputy Prime Minister M.Enkhbold, former Prime Minister Su.Batbold and the youngest State Honored artist, singer D.Bold as the person of the year.
