Mongolian Olympic medalists awarded monthly bonus for lifetime

ULAN BATOR, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Mongolian president Tsakhia Elbegdorj on Thursdayafternoon held a welcome ceremony for the Mongolian Olympic delegation back fromthe 2012 London Olympic Games.

Elbegdorj congratulated Mongolian athletes' good performances during the Olympicsand encouraged them to win more glory for Mongolia.

The president also promised the government will provide favorable trainingcircumstances and material conditions of lives for them and released a presidentialdecree which stipulated that the Olympic medalists will be awarded a lifetime monthlybonus from the government in which every gold medalist will get 3 million tugriks( about2,200 U.S. dollars) per month, silver and bronze medalists will receive 2 million and 1million tugriks per month individually.

The Mongolian government had already granted the one-time cash awards for the fivemedalists at the London Games, and Nyambayar Tugstsogt, who grabbed the silver inMen's 52kg boxing, got 60 million tugriks (about 44,400 U.S. dollars) prize.

A total of 29 Mongolian athletes competed at the London Olympics including shooting,track and field, boxing, judo, wrestling, archery and swimming and they won 2 silversand 3 bronzes in total, making Mongolia rank the 56th in the medal table.
