Petro Matad extra time in Mongolia
London-listed explorer PetroMatad has secured a five-year extension to the exploration term of its Block XX production sharing contract in Mongolia.
The company, now in its seventh year of the contract, has committed $47.1 million for exploration over the additional five-year period at the block, which has so far focused mainly on the Davsan Tolgoi prospect.
It is also targeting six more promising sub-basins that have been partly covered by 2D seismic in the southern part of the 10,340 square-kilometre block.
PetroMatad chief executive Douglas McGay said the extension would give the company, which holds sole operatorship of three PSCs in Mongolia, extra time “to carry out quality and thorough investigations to further define drillable prospects”.
