Fiji in world final

THE 62nd Miss World Beauty Pageant officially opened in Inner Mongolia, an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China on Tuesday night.

Miss Fiji, Koini Vakaloloma's national costume and dance, were selected to open the dance of the world segment of the pageant finale next month.

According to a statement, the national costume symbolising the owl and a special choreographed meke overseen by Miss World Fiji national director Andhy Blake with the help of Pasifika Voices performers will be a highlight of next month's finals.

"Hundred and seventeen countries auditioned to be a part of the dance segment and we are very honoured to be given this awesome opportunity to display our culture and talent, let alone open this section," Mr Blake said.

He said the portion of the contest allowed carefully selected contestants to display the excitement that showcased the uniqueness of their countries.

Miss Fiji was also one of eight specially invited contestants by the Mongolian government to tour the city of Ordos alongside Miss New Zealand, the only other contestant from the Pacific region.
