Planting begins in Mongolia

Spring planting in Mongolia officially begins today, and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry hopes it will be over in two weeks.

Some farmers, however, started planting last week.

Altogether 130 agriculture organizations in Mongolia have bought 3,800 tons of wheat seed from the Agriculture Business Support Foundation for MNT510 a kilo. The Ministry of Mongolia says 700 organizations and individual citizens will plant in 284,000 hectares, 276,500 of which will be for wheat and the remaining 7,500 for vegetables. It is estimated that the harvest will yield 388,100 tons of wheat, 188,000 tons of potato and 94,800 tons of vegetables.
