Mongolia Youth Day to focus on development
International Youth Day is celebrated on August 12, while in Mongolia, Youth Day has been observed on August 25 since 2003. This year’s Youth Day will be organized under the theme “Youth and Transnational Migration”.
During the press conference the Minister for Population Development and Social Welfare, S.Erdene pointed out the significance of pursuing certain policy towards the intensified increase of population migration in Mongolia in recent years. A recent study shows that the number of youth heading to foreign countries is still growing. According to unofficial statistics, a total of 67.1 million of Mongolia’s young people are residing and studying abroad, which is 7.1 percent of Mongolian youth.
Marking Youth Day in Mongolia, the Ministry of Population Growth and Social Welfare, the Mongolian Youth Federation and UN are organizing a meeting to allow specialists from state and non-governmental organizations in charge of youth development issues to exchange information, and the organizations are working together to launch youth development centers in nine districts of Ulaanbaatar and 15 provinces as part of “Youth Development 2013-2017”.
The first youth development center will open in Darkhan-Uul Province. As part of Mongolian Youth Day, Minister S.Erdene plans to organize various events, including an appearance in Umnugobi Province to meet local residents and youth representatives. He will get acquainted with the operation of some mines in order to attract nationwide attention to the social issues raised by mining-related population movement and youth migration, and will work to determine solutions for the challenges that the youth working in the mining sector face.
