First-ever UB Food Festival celebrates international cuisine
Viva City, a new housing and commercial development in Yaarmag along the Tuul River, hosted the two-day UB Food Festival on August 24 and 25.
The festival featured several restaurants, lounges, fast food chains, and distributors in Ulaanbaatar. The participating businesses had tents set up along the blocked-off streets and pedestrian plazas of Viva City, offering fresh samples of their food and specialty cocktails, wines and beers. Viva City restaurants and shops were also open to festival attendees. A shuttle bus offered transportation from Misheel Expo to Viva City.
BBQ Chicken, Monet, Namaste, Sky Lounge, Pho House, Nestle and Sweet Kitchen were just a few of the vendors present. They made up a wide-range of international flavors offered to attendees. The event was free of charge, and vendors offered free samples, small plates, and drink specials ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 MNT.
Billed as presenting “40 of the best restaurants” the city had to offer, the event fell short of its 40, but it did showcase the wide range of international cuisines now readily available in the city. Viva City residents and food lovers sampled signature dishes and cocktails in a relaxed environment. Bands and DJs kept people entertained as they ate, drank and explored the new residential complex and visiting restaurants.
Keeping up with food festivals around the world, the UB Food Festival also offered cooking demonstrations from some of the city’s best chefs, a cake competition, and a bartending presentation by members of the Mongolian Bartender Association.
