SMK Julau athlete for Asian cross country race

SARIKEI: SMK Julau is making news again with the selection of its star distance runner Banended Limau Saing to represent Malaysia at the 2nd Asian Cross Country Race to be held at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from June 26-30.

The Iban athlete from Rumah Jelian Nanga Matup Meluan has started intensive training for the international meet at the Bukit Jalil Sports School on June 16.

Limau already has a string of achievements in distance running and walking this year.

She won gold medals for the 1500 m and 2,000 m steeplechase and 5,000m walk in the MSS Sarikei Division in March.

The following month she topped the state in the same three events at the MSS Sarawak championships held in Kuching’s Jubilee Ground.

In cross country running, Limau emerged first in Sarikei division and was second at the state-level race in Miri in February. She went on to finish seventh at the Inter-State championship held in Sabah in April.

The 17 year-old aspires to further her studies at Bukit Jalil Sports School and represent Malaysia in distance and cross country running.

In 2011 another SMK Julau athlete Endang anak Ringgit was the first in the school to be selected to represent Malaysia for the inaugural Asian Cross Country Race also held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
