Macao, Mongolia Ink Pact on Fight against Human Trafficking
Macao and the Republic of Mongolia have signed an "agreement on cooperation to combat trafficking in persons", the Macao Post Daily reported on Tuesday.
The pact was signed here on Monday by Secretary for Security Cheong Kuoc Va and Mongolia's State Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade Damdin Tsogtbaatar at the headquarters of the Public Security Forces (FSM).
The newspaper quoted Cheong as saying that the local authorities would provide accommodation, medical care and protection to victims of human trafficking.
Macao is known to be a destination for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation, and has been identified by several international agencies as a sex trade hub.
Macao Post Daily quoted informed sources as saying that "dozens of" Mongolian women work in Macao's sex industry.
