Size of payment for air pollution fixed

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The payment for air pollution will be one Togrog per one kilogram raw coal which is extracted by citizens and entities, in accordance with a decision made at Wednesday's cabinet meeting.

The payment for air pollution, caused by organic solvents produced and imported by citizens and entities, will be MNT 10-30 per kilogram depending on the harm the solvents cause to air. Organic solvents include construction paints and lacquer, liquefier substances, chemical cleaning substances, paints for publishing houses, and various solvent substances to clean equipment, process leather and minerals, and medicine.
Mongolia imports over three million liters of organic solvents a year. The Fresh Air fund accumulates some MNT 60 million a year from the payment for air-polluting imported solvents.

The cabinet has ordered a Minister of Environment and Tourism to approve a working rule of the non-staff leading council that will be obliged to regulate activities of the Fresh Air fund and to ensure a public participation in it.

The Minister will introduce the Premier to his proposal on appointment of the council membership by the end of this October.
