Mineral Wealth Council approves “MonCement” project

Monpolimet Group developed the feasibility study of “MonCement” project and it was approved by the Mineral Wealth Council of Mongolia on June 17 2010. Doctor and Professor L.Purev, a member of the Council and the Director of the Mining and Engineering School of the University of Science and Technology, shared his information about the project.

Q: What is the main importance of “MonCement” project?

Dr. L.Purev: The Council discussed two projects; building lime mine and cement factory at the Sejit Khudag lime mine in the territory of Dornogobi aimag. It is huge step that the local company invests in the national industry and building cement factory that will replace imported cement in the future. Therefore, the Council appraised and supported the project wholly.

Q: What would you say about the factory?

Dr. L.Purev: Cement is the main material for the construction. From the mining perspective, it is the very first initiative to develop a limestone mine into the final product producing factory. A private company is starting such huge construction and creation work in the construction material production. I think it will bring eminent contribution to the Mongolian economy. Mining and construction sector is flourishing in Mongolia. I think it will bring many positive changes in the local community and economy.

Q: What is the current situation on cement market?

Dr. L.Purev: Mongolian factories can’t fully supply domestic demand of cement. Therefore, most of cement is imported from China.

Editorial: Monpolimet Group conducted detailed exploration work in the territory of Urgun soum of Dornogobi aimag for last five years and explored 12 million tons of confirmed and 55 million tons of prognosis reserve in the explored area. It was approved by the Mineral Wealth Council of Mongolia. This factory would supply mining construction projects in the southern gobi region.
