Startup Weekend Mongolia 2

Participants had voiced 20 ideas in all areas of economy.
It all started with the idea of developing prepaid legal services then self-warming food containers, then Media Monitoring Web Solution and ended with an idea to open a Chocolate lounge.

Once again- it all passed so quickly yet so slowly. So tiring yet so energizing. Friday night at 7:30PM we had kicked off SWM2 behind the schedule. There were 25 different people not only in their profession but also in generations and experience. We had lawyers, designers, IT developers, bankers, self-employed business people, and recent graduates.

As the pitches started, the demographics weren’t the only thing that was so different. Participants had voiced 20 ideas in all areas of economy. It all started with the idea of developing prepaid legal services then self-warming food containers, then Media Monitoring Web Solution and ended with an idea to open a Chocolate lounge.

Later Friday night, we had nine teams forming around the best ideas voted by everyone. Immediately, teams started working on their startup ideas and going around collecting data. By Saturday morning, some teams had clear idea about the feasibility of their startups where some had to “tweak” them. Soon we heard names like “Choco-house”, BN Network Solutions, Web@torney, New Wall and Rainbow Cover. BN Network Solutions wanted to create a platform where data(media) can be consolidated so that they can be used to create various reporting.
We had more variety of mentors this time around, which created the best resource center for everyone. There are many great sponsors who make this event possible including M.A.D. Investment Solutions, XacBank, SynergyGoal Group, Mongolian National ITPARK, MNCCI, APU, CITI Institute, WEBGURU, Biznetwork, Start&Logic.

On Sunday evening, we had an amazing panel of judges including CITI university founder, Prof Baigalmaa, creative CEO Bayartsetseg, Austrade Commissioner David Lawson, Synergy Goal Group CEO Yari Porat and our very own WEBGURU CEO Mergen Chuluun. After they had kindly judged the startups, they spent some time to give them great insight into the possibility that everybody had with great optimism.
Winners were:

1. Choco-House: Chocolate lounge for couples and Ulaanbaatar city
2. Web@torney: Prepaid Legal Services, Online Law Data resource
3. Rainbow Cover: New Press for High school students

Overall the energy was incredible and we couldn’t have asked for better results. We like to thank all of our sponsors, mentors, organizers and participants. We will see you again on November 18th, 2011 when we will be Startup Weekend Mongolia 3 in junction with the Global Entrepreneurship Week Mongolia.
