SSIA fines mining companies

The State Specialized Inspecting Agency (SSIA) has shut down 73 mining companies that were operating illegally in Mongolia. The crackdown follows an investigation of mining activities in Tuv, Arkhangai, Selenge, Darkhan-Uul, and Khentii aimags between September 4 and 10. The companies that were closed were violating a law that bans mineral exploration and exploitation in river and forest basins.

The SSIA has also ordered companies to correct 23 environmental violations. Additionally, MNT 55 million in fines have been imposed, and 712 gram of gold have been confiscated.

Nineteen companies in Tsenkher soum of Arkhangai aimag were found to be illegally mining gold.
