MPs must agree on election rules

A draft law on election rules failed to pass during the spring session of parliament because the MPP and the DP were unable to reach an agreement on the issue. That means MPs will have to take up the issue again in the autumn session.

DP official Ch.Saikhanbileg told the newspaper Uls turiin toim that the two parties have formed a working group to tackle the issue, but he could give no more information.

MPP official Su.Batbold said that the working group has not officially met yet, so he had no official statement.

If the draft law is not passed during the autumn session, there are concerns that it could become a political issue heading into the 2012 election.
