“Museum in a box” reaches over 700 children

The “Museum in a Box” project by the Mongolian Arts Council has been travelling around Mongolia to bring the portable museum to children in remote areas of the country who are unable to visit museums in the city.

This educational project was initiated in 2010 with the aim to supplement young people and children with knowledge about cultural heritage and familiarize them with information on valuable museum artifacts. The content of the program was formulated by the educational workers of the Choijin Lama Temple Museum, Zanabazar Fine Arts Museum, and the Mongolian Dinosaur Research Institute NGO. Since then, it has created three portable boxes containing museum specimens from three state museums.

Currently in the 2012-13 academic year, the “Museum in a Box” has visited over 20 general education students in remote provinces in Mongolia and schools in suburban areas of Ulaanbaatar, covering over 700 children. The project is financed by the Khas Bank of Mongolia and implemented in cooperation with the Choijin Lama Temple Museum.
