Even Mongolia needs it Premier League fix
IMG Media has secured the next cycle of Premier League rights in Japan, Vietnam and Mongolia, reports SportsPro.
The deal covers three seasons from 2013/14 and comes a day after MP & Silva obtained the rights for New Zealand, Indonesia and 15 Pacific Islands. IMG will now sell on the rights to broadcasters in each territory.
The Japanese and Vietnam rights were previously held by MP & Silva.
Richard Scudamore, the chief executive of the Premier League, which has signed a raft of international broadcast deals in recent weeks, said: "We know IMG well and are extremely pleased that they have chosen to invest in the Premier League broadcasting rights for Japan, Vietnam and Mongolia."
He added: “We look forward to working with them as they distribute the Barclays Premier League in a comprehensive and innovative manner to our fans in all three countries.”
Michael Mellor, an IMG Media senior vice president and head of football, added: “The popularity of the Premier League has never been higher in the Asian regions and we anticipate there will be strong interest for the various rights in the three territories.”
