Union demands raises for private sector workers in Mongolia

The Professional Production Trade Union of the Confederation of Trade Unions says it will send a note to Parliament and the Government demanding pay increases for private sector workers.

The union says the private sector accounts for 80 percent of GDP, but the Government and Parliament have decided to increase the salaries of state workers by 53 percent.

The union says the Government and Parliament must provide measures for increasing the wages of the 850,000 workers in the private sector. The union suggests allocating money for the increases in the state budget, as well as reducing the value-added and income taxes. The union says that, if the private sector increased salaries across the board by 53 percent, 300,000 workers would be fired. That is why the union says it is calling on the Government and Parliament for assistance.
