Teachers and actors rally for salary increases

Kindergarten and secondary school teachers, along with performers from national art organizations, demonstrated in Sukhbaatar Square on Thursday demanding salary increases. Altogether some 2,000 people took part.

The demonstrators demanded that the Government increase their salaries beginning January 1, 2012. They said they organized the demonstration because the Government has not fulfilled a promise.

The current salary of secondary school teachers is between MNT 300,000 and MNT 350,000. New teachers receive MNT 241,720. Representatives of teachers said if their salary was raised to MNT 500,000, they would be satisfied.

Singers, dancers, and actors also demonstrated, noting that they perform at all state ceremonies. Their salaries are between MNT 200,000 and MNT 250,000.
