Parliament passes law on automated voting system

Parliament passed a draft law on an automated voting system on Thursday.

The head of the Standing Committee on State Structure, J.Sukhbaatar, and the head of the Election General Committee (EGC) explained that an information center will be located in each electoral district’s unit, and employees trained on the new system will work in the information centers. Poll results will be sent to the information centers and after authorization, the results will be posted in the centers.

The EGC will prepare rules for exchanging voting information electronically.

The automated system has two basic parts. The first is a voter registration machine and the second is a vote counting machine. Poll results will be sent from electoral districts to the EGC through a special closed network.

MPs asked about the rights and duties of voters during the election and proof of the reliability of the automated system.

Ts.Sukhbaataar said that citizens will be informed of their rights through the automated system information fund. He added that there will be sufficient time to test the machines before the election.
