Government to intensify regional cooperation

Prime Minister S.Batbold received M.A.Travnikov, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Regional Development, on Monday.

The two officials discussed relations and cooperative issues concerning the two countries, and exchanged opinions. S.Batbold noted that border points have an important role in building strategic partnerships and cooperation. He noted that a roundtable discussion called “Border Areas Cooperation between Mongolia and Russia” was successfully organized at the 7th Baikal International Forum. S.Batbold said that a joint plan to establish legislation, trade, and favorable economic conditions concluded during his visit to Russia in 2010 is being implemented at present.

S.Batbold underlined that regional cooperation should include improving border checkpoints and developing tourism in the area of lakes Baikal and Khuvsgul, as well as improving infrastructure in border areas.

He said the Government of Mongolia will support regional cooperation in all spheres and wished success to the 10th meeting of the intergovernmental sub-commission of Mongolia and Russia for regional and border cooperation. The meeting will be held in Khalimag, Russia in May 2012.
