T.Badamjunai: Let us improve livestock quality in Mongolia

Some 500 herders from six Central aimags, agriculture specialists and officials of the Office of the President, Parliament, the Standing Committees, the Government and the local administrations are attending a state conference on the progress of the Mongol Livestock program and development of the countryside at Government House today.

Similar meetings will later be held in Orkhon aimag to cover the Khangai region, in Khovd aimag for the western region, and in Dornod aimag for the eastern region. The idea for this came from Prime Minister S.Batbold.

Minister for Food, Agriculture and Light Industry T.Badamjunai told today’s meeting that livestock was a significant part of the economy of Mongolia. “We have to improve livestock farming practices, and reduce their dependence on natural factors to make them more profitable,” he said, adding that livestock and farm produces account for 10% of total agricultural products and one-third of the population depend on them for their living. The Mongol Livestock program intends to improve livestock quality.
