Shenhua Energy Eyes Mongolian Coal Mine

March 23 -- China Shenhua Energy (601088) will cooperate with Japan's Mitsui, to enter the bidding for the west section of the Tavan Tolgoi Tsankhi coal mine in Mongolia, reports 21CBH, citing a company filing.

The Tavan Tolgoi coal mine, located at the border between China and Mongolia, is the world’s largest undeveloped coal mine, with the area of coal reserves totaling four million square meters.

Initial estimates of the mine's coking coal reserves are approximately 6.4 billion tons, of which 4.6 billion tons are steam coal. The reserves have a market value of more than $300 billion.

A total of 20 leading energy companies from China, Russia, Canada, Brazil, America, Japan, Kazakhstan and Australia have joined in the bidding for the Tayan Tolgoi coal mine.
