UNICEF officials recommend enriched flour

UNICEF officials Rana Flowers and Jack Bagriansky called on the head of the Standing Committee on Social Policy, D.Ochirbat, on Monday. The officials told Ochirbat that Mongolia should pass a law requiring the use of enriched flour.

They said 60 nations have already passed similar laws. They said flour that is enriched with five vitamins and two minerals is good for people’s health. The annual cost per person would be about MNT 300.

If the laws was passed and implemented, the officials said, there would be reductions in the rates of anemia, rickets, certain cancers, and birth defects.
